The 5" K-style is the workhorse of residential gutters, and for good reason. From the street it reads like crown molding, but the profile is doing real work: a properly pitched run carries 1.2 to 1.5 gallons of water per linear foot, which covers the roof area on most of the homes we service across North Dakota, Idaho, Washington, and Minnesota.
We form every run on-site from a single coil of heavy-gauge aluminum or steel, cut to your home's exact measurements. No splices along the run, no factory sections pieced together, no seams to work loose when the temperature swings from January to July.
Why the K-style profile works
The angled front wall of the "K" shape is not decorative. It stiffens the gutter along its full length and lets the trough carry more water per foot than a rounded half-round profile of the same width. That extra rigidity matters here, where gutters carry snow and ice for months at a time, and the flat back sits tight against the fascia for a clean line under the shingle edge.

How we install it
The profile only performs if the install does. Every 5" K-style job follows the same standards we use on every gutter we hang:
- Hidden hangers every 24 to 32 inches for load strength
- Pitch set at 1/8" per 10 feet so water keeps moving
- Corners and miters hand-sealed with elastomeric sealant
- Downspouts sized and placed to match the roof area feeding each run
When 5" is not enough
Most homes are well served by a 5" system. If your roof is unusually large or steep, sheds water fast off metal panels, or already overflows in a hard rain, a 6" K-style system is usually the better call. We measure the roof and recommend a size during the on-site estimate instead of defaulting to one profile.
