Downspouts & Extensions

Downspout with extension directing water away from a foundation

The strongest seamless gutter on the market cannot protect your home if the water has nowhere to go. Downspouts are the discharge side of the system, and undersized or badly placed downspouts are behind most of the overflow, erosion, and wet-basement calls we take.

We install and replace custom-fit downspouts and extensions in a full range of sizes, matched to your roof area, gutter profile, and grading. Every piece is measured and cut on-site, fastened clean, and color-matched to your gutters, siding, or trim.

Sizes and styles

Downspout size should follow the roof, not habit. The lineup we install:

  • 2x3" corrugated for small to mid-sized roof areas
  • 3x4" corrugated, the standard upgrade for modern homes and the required pairing for 6" gutters
  • 4x5" corrugated, commercial-grade capacity for large, steep, or metal roofs
  • Square profiles for box gutter systems and modern builds

Placement and count

A common guideline is one downspout for every 20 to 30 feet of gutter, but large and complex rooflines concentrate water in ways a rule of thumb misses. During the estimate we count roof planes, check where each run drains, and add drops where a single outlet would bottleneck. Metal roofs usually get the larger sizes, since they shed water fast enough to overwhelm a standard outlet.

Extensions: the last few feet

A downspout that dumps at the foundation just relocates the problem. Extensions carry discharge at least 4 to 6 feet from the house, and farther where the yard slopes back toward it or the soil is heavy clay.

  • Straight, hinged, and collapsible extension options
  • Custom runs for tricky grading and walkways
  • Reduces pooling, erosion, and pressure on basement walls
